User of a Files Server Can Self-Restore His Own Files

When a replica member is defined with Data Protection Support (DPS) feature turned on, it is set to handle the multiple version data replication and allow network clients to self-restore replicated files. This replica member is now functioning as an equivalent of a Data Protection Manager.

As described in the picture below, when end-users retrieve archived files, they interact only with the Primary master server. By accessing a Windows mapped drive on his computer, an end-user can manage all his archived files with ease even though the files may actually be on the Replica member server some thousands of miles away.

To check on a previous version of a file on the Primary master server

  • Under the replication Set Configuration, select the defined replicaiton set and click button Version to open up the file management utility box

  • Select the replica station you want to access in the host menu to access the files on that station.

On the client side, with a small utility tool installed on the end-users working system, all files on the backup servers can be retrieved as if they are right on the end-user’s system.

  • From Windows Explorer, select the folder that is mapped to the Primary master server for file retrieving. Double click the mapped drive name to open up the dialog box as shown below. The user login requirement ensures one person’s file can be retrieved only by him/her-self.

  • With correct login information, an end-user can view all previous versions of the working files.
