SQL Service Active/Active Mode For Easy Database File Access On The Secondary Station

The Active/Active mode is the configuration in the ClusterReplica SQL edition that keeps the SQL services on both Primary and Secondary stations active. This is designed to allow database access on the Secondary station. Users can extract data from the database on the Secondary station for reports or data analysis. Because the process of extracting data in a database involves intensive server resource allocation that may slow down server performance significantly, the Secondary station is usually preferred for such activities.

Some of the key notes on active/active mode are:

  1. The selection of the Disable mode and Enable mode affects all monitored services defined in the File Replication Area Setup
  2. Larger hard disk capacity may be required - this is because data being replicated from the Primary station in real time is first stored in a temporary location and then copied into the defined replication location according to the time duration user defined (two hours is set by default).
  3. When data is copied from the temporary location to the defined replication location, the real time data replication from the Primary station is stopped temporarily.
  4. The process of copying data from the temporary location to the defined replication location can be activated by scheduled time or manually if necessary.
