Defining the IsaStor Three-tier Architecture
The First Tier allows you to balance the load of requests among two
server by running Network Load Balancing.
The two servers will appear as one to the end user. This enables you to manage the clustered network very easily and
allow the clients the most efficient and quickest way to access the
data. To ensure that the data on both servers is similar, the File
Synchronization feature will replicate the data on both servers
automatically, saving you a lot of time. Should either server or
processes fail, the Failover feature will direct all the traffic to
the server that is up and running. Having installed the First Tier
solution of the Three-Tier architecture will ensure your site and
services to always be available to handle incoming
connections.
For even more reliability and availability, you can add the
Second-Tier software solution package to your two server network.
The Second Tier solution can handle the increase complexity and
number of applications by automatically detecting change and
replicating mission-critical data for database, applications,
and file and intranet data sharing.
The two servers with this Second-Tier Data Replication
software solution added on offers higher availability for incoming
requests and simplifies the task of managing data and
applications. Another important added feature to the
Second-Tier Solution that the First-Tier did not have is the
automatic detection and recovery from server or application
failures. So if a server fails, the failed
server's replicated applications' workload will automatically restart on the functioning
server. Should an individual application fail, the application will
restart the application on the other server. Detecting and
restarting the service takes place so quickly that the client will
have practically no idea of any problems and shall continue to view
the network through one IP address. This fault-tolerant Failover
system ensures high availability and scalability for planned and
unplanned failures.
